Crazy Zauberball Striped Socks

19 January 2024 By Nicolette Leave a Comment

I adore Schoppel Wolle Crazy Zauberball and have over 40 colours in the Yarn Shop. It is the most exciting yarn to knit with. I’ve enjoyed knitting many different projects with it.

I used Schoppel Wolle Crazy Zauberball colour 1701 Parrot for these socks.

Crazy Zauberball Striped Socks

The Crazy Zauberball striped socks are great fun because every sock will be different and unique; the two socks will be different but obviously related, like fraternal twins.

I tend to adapt a favourite basic sock pattern when knitting striped socks like this. I have knitted so many socks using the We Love Denim pattern that I no longer have to look at it. If you need a different size, use the Basic Sock Pattern in 6 Sizes as a starting point. Basic Sock Pattern smaller sizes and Basic Sock Pattern larger sizes. If this is your first pair of socks, the How To Knit Your First Sock series takes you through knitting your first sock step by step.

I divide the ball into two using a ball winder and weighing scale. I start by weighing the ball as sometimes they are a little under or over 100g. I wind a ball weighing 40g and label it Ball A; the rest is wound into a ball weighing 60g and labelled Ball B.

Ball B is larger because I use it for knitting the heel flap and turning the heel.

The Crazy Zauberball Striped Socks were knit using 3 round stripes alternating between Ball A and Ball B.

My stripe sequence:

Everything can be tweaked as the sock is knit; maybe you want less ribbing for the cuff or a shorter leg; the only thing you need to do is ensure that the leg ends with a stripe in Ball B.

Cuff – 7 stripes – start and end with Ball A.

Leg – 21 stripes – start and end with Ball B.

Heel Flap and Heel Turn – continue knitting with Ball B without breaking the yarn.

Gusset and Foot – start with Ball A. Continue with the striping until the sock foot is the length you require,

Toe – continue the striping sequence for the toe.

Graft the toe at the end using Kitchener stitch.

Striped socks are so much fun to knit. I love that every sock is different. The finished socks are fun and exciting. Let me know how your socks turn out if you knit a pair of Crazy Zauberball Striped Socks using one ball of Crazy Zauberball.

“it is pure potential. Every ball or skein of yarn holds something inside it, and the great mystery of what that might be can be almost spiritual”
